“The soul, the earth, the color. Art of action and inclusion "by Toni Zanussi (Warehouse 26,Porto Vecchio, 34135 Trieste)
December 29,2021 - February 20,2022

An art exhibition with free admission with about ninety works by the Friulian artist who is also and above all a project-laboratory of social inclusion

Opening Wednesday 29 December at 11

TRIESTE, 27 DECEMBER 2021 - The exhibition “The soul, the earth, the color. Art of action and inclusion "by the Friulian artist Toni Zanussi (Qualso, Udine, 1952). The initiative is much more than a personal one in which to view the poetic and subtly dreamlike art of Toni Zanussi, because it is also a project-laboratory, conceived by the artist himself, of social inclusion. The exhibition that Trieste dedicates to Toni Zanussi is in fact part of an exhibition cycle of reviews, each different from the other, focused not only on his creativity, but also on the promotion of this precious and current concept, which saw a first exhibition in a much smaller version in 2020 in Tarcento and that after Trieste will continue in Munich. The exhibition at Magazzino 26,curated by the journalist and art critic Marianna Accerboni, is created by the Municipality of Trieste in collaboration with the Office of Social Service for Minors (USSM) of Trieste, the UDEPE (District Execution Office External Criminal Law) of Trieste and with the local Guarantor for the rights of persons deprived of personal liberty. There will be six people in the area (adults and minors), some protagonists of illegal conduct, who during the execution of the community measures and sanctions to which they are subject, will offer their contribution to the review, in particular in the dissemination and communication processes of the exhibition as well as in welcoming visitors. The objective of this involvement is to give them back a role of social utility and to favor their reintegration through a positive educational and relational experience in the world of art, demonstrating that art can be a powerful tool for education to legality. The exhibition will be inaugurated on Wednesday 29 December by Giorgio Rossi, councilor for culture and tourism policies of the Municipality of Trieste, Carlo Grilli, councilor for social policies of the Municipality of Trieste, Marianna Accerboni, art critic and curator of the show. Rita Bergamo, Head of the Community Measures and Sanctions Area of the U. D.E. P.E. Will speak for the Ministry of Justice, the Department of Juvenile and Community Justice. Of Trieste and Elisabetta Kolar Director of the U. S.S. M. of Trieste. The presentation of the exhibition will also be visible in live streaming on the YouTube channel of the Municipality of Trieste. "A man can also be a great artist, a genius, have a gift that comes from the hand of God, but if there is nothing else behind the scenes, if there is not that relationship with the world that distinguishes

predestined then what is his art worth? " Councilor Giorgio Rossi is keen to clarify, who had the pleasure of meeting the artist and especially appreciating his human implications. «Toni - continues
- is predestined for hospitality, a person who has cultivated the culture of Man, who sends messages, testifies on every occasion to the good things that nature has given him; he shows them, shares them. He is a man who has faith and trust in the world. The moment you meet him he places his Universe at the center of yours and thus creates the most difficult thing, the union of the Spirits. This is why we wanted to build with him a path that is not only artistic but a history with high social and human implications that transform this exhibition into a life experience for many of us. The exhibition becomes a moment of reflection, we are no longer extras but protagonists who want to experience the greatest gift that is granted to us: Humanity "

"I firmly believe that art, creativity and beauty - adds Councilor Carlo Grilli - are propagators of hope and trust in the future, elements at the basis of all paths of social inclusion. But inclusion also means collaborating together and for this very reason the exhibition by Toni Zanussi is accompanied by a chorus of institutional, private and private social realities that have contributed to the positive outcome and which I thank. Even in Trieste, in fact, the Toni Zanussi exhibition is animated by the presence of young people and adults who have become protagonists of illegal conduct and who make themselves available to the public as a guide, to convey to visitors the profound meaning of the works of 'Artist. “The soul, the earth, the color. Even in Trieste, in fact, the Toni Zanussi exhibition is animated by the presence of young people and adults who have become protagonists of illegal conduct and who make themselves available to the public as a guide, to convey to visitors the profound meaning of the works of 'Artist. Joining the Municipal Administration exhibition therefore aims to be an opportunity for the people followed by the Services to test themselves in a positive relational context, which promotes education for legality and allows everyone to find a way to leave the own imprint of color in the world. "

In a place of great architectural charm such as Warehouse 26,in perfect harmony with the setting, the exhibition with free admission hosts about ninety works of magnetic suggestion, many of which are of considerable size - over two meters in length for a meter high - divided into five thematic sections according to a chronological path. From tables to bins and crates painted with bright and sunny colors and with the themes of dreams that tell of distant journeys, in the territories of the mind and the fantastic, through works of the most diverse and fascinating shapes: rectangular, circular, ogive, made on different supports such as MDF supports, the raw wood of the crates, the metal of the large bins. "The exhibition - explains the curator Marianna Accerboni - testifies, in a sort of horizon of light and bright, elegant and at the same time sober colors, to the creative universe and the experimentation carried out by the Friulian painter Toni Zanussi in the last thirty years. On display appears a wide selection of works that recount his imaginary, drawn up according to a very personal, harmonious and subtly dynamic figure: a painting that gushed out from the heart of an artist with a singing pictorial gesture. Bright and sometimes backlit, as life often is, his works speak to us of real existence, transcending it and idealizing it through iconic symbolisms and hope. In this sense, from a critical point of view, his work is part of that expressive vein oriented to an interpretation of reality enriched by dreamlike, fantastic, metaphysical and surreal suggestions, which he characterized, in the name of freedom, a good part of twentieth-century and contemporary art and even architecture, starting with Mirò to arrive at the organic forms of the American architect Frank Gehry ”. "

The public will thus be able to enjoy many of his works, some of which are unpublished: from the recent "Totem homage to Mostar" of 2020 which exceeds three meters diagonally, to the triptych formed by the three ogival-shaped works "Cosmogony", "Black Terno Cosmogony" and "Red Cosmogony" from 1994.An art where evil is desecrated, exorcised and overcome through brightly colored, almost cheerful compositions to take the viewer into another reality, an escape towards hope as in the most recent series focused on the theme of the Covid-19 pandemic, which the artist calls “invisible creature”, and to the lyrical chromatic flights over Sarajevo and Mostar, reminiscent of the tragedy of the war or that of Afghanistan. For Toni Zanussi art is artistic commitment, redemption for all the humble, the poor, the abandoned, the discarded of the earth and it is also a tool, language, methodology to express his civil commitment. Accompanying each section, a text alludes to penalties, detention and the possibility of redemption through restorative justice, a cross-cutting theme of the exhibition and deeply felt by the artist: hope. Zanussi is inspired by nature and its changes, colors and atmospheres that change with the changing of the seasons. Immersed in the woods of Mount Stella in Tarcento (UD), where the artist has built his studio-atelier, a hospitable place, always open to onlookers and friends, "a painter of cosmogony and the contamination between matter and reality social, waste recovery artist and poet ”as Gillo Dorfles defined him, Zanussi has been collecting ever-increasing successes for over forty years. His works have been told by many writers and intellectuals and exhibited around the world, from Venice to Paris. Over the next few months, events will be held at the Trieste exhibition in which well-known personalities in the world of entertainment and culture will be involved, called to intervene on the artistic aspects of the exhibition and on restorative justice. The initiative demonstrates how art and solidarity can involve and convey feelings and emotions of equal and profound intensity, representing an opportunity to rediscover together that difficulties can translate into opportunities. After Trieste, the exhibition of this reserved and intense painter will move to Unterföhring (Munich). Free admission
