Silence and light: Monday 13 March 2023 at 11.00 inauguration of the personal exhibition of the painter Claudio Mario Feruglio at the Palazzo del Consiglio Regionale, piazza Oberdan, 6 Trieste
On Monday 13 March at 11.00 the Prime Minister will inaugurate the personal exhibition of the artist Claudio Mario Feruglio entitled Of silence and light at the Palazzo del Consiglio Regionale. Commissioned by the Presidency as part of the initiatives to promote and enhance culture and the arts in the Region, it presents about forty selected works created by the Friulian master from 2000 to 2022 inspired by the poetics of silence and inner listening, themes particularly dear to him. Critical introduction by Marianna Accerboni. Authoritative personalities from the world of culture and art have written about Feruglio, noting how Silence and Light manifest themselves in his works to project themselves into each of us. Already Carlo Sgorlon in an important essay of a few years ago wrote about Feruglio calling him the painter of silence and subdued listening to the supreme music of the universe. It could not be otherwise for an artist like him who, in the course of his activity, from academic training to today, has created unique works modulating them according to a personal language that invites inner listening. «I have always tried to paint - the master says of himself - not from life, but the encounter of my thought with the truth. My painting is a form of prayer, a going beyond the things of the world. Perhaps not even I realize how wonderfully beautiful is happening in me when I paint. A gift of grace! I hope I managed to capture at least a few crumbs of the infinite with my paintings. I hope that whoever looks at my paintings can live this experience, allowing themselves to be taught by the light of silence. We need an art of values that helps spread the culture of beauty. A questioning beauty that shakes consciences from torpor and directs them towards the true light. The architect Marianna Accerboni will draw the profile of our artist. Feruglio's art - says the scholar - is suspended between rigor, lyricism and perception of the infinite. The paintings are fascinating but not aesthetic, rather they are introspective with a flutter that touches and involves the collective feeling. Making use of an intense chromaticism, embellished with multiple glazes and symbiotic in relation to the expressionist predilections, the artist builds a bridge of light between reality and the infinite, between the individual and the universe, with poetically and intellectually elevated intuitions, which soften the biting vitality of the expressionism according to a very topical and exciting neo-romantic vein, which makes us all share in his concentrated introspection of universal openness. Born in Udine in 1953,he completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, a pupil of the spatialist Edmondo Bacci. During his stay in Venice, studying, drawing, painting, visits to churches and museums engage him in an intimate reflection that elevates his pictorial research to an instrument of introspection and an ethical space. At the beginning of the seventies the first relevant exhibitions: in 1974 the solo exhibition at the baptistery of San Giovanni in Grado entitled Racconti Biblici, an emblematic title that outlines the characteristic imprint of his work. Defined by his commentators as a personality inclined to reflect, his search for transcendence has been the founding theme of his work right from the start, together with his Friulian identity. In the following years, an active participation in Friulian and national artistic life intensified. In 1981 he was among the winners of the San Fedele National Prize, which brought him to the attention of the Milanese critics. He subsequently holds solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, in private galleries and public institutions: in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Principality of Monaco, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, France, Poland, Finland, Spain, Great Britain, Turkey, Japan, China, Brazil, Australia. In 1995 he participated by invitation to the XLVI International Art Exhibition in Venice - in the context of the collateral exhibitions - Memorie e Attese 1895 - 1995 review, with the group Le Voci del Silenzio. In 2005 he made a short film with the director Gianni Fachin entitled The mystery and the light, in which he tells his inner poetics centered on silence.
