10 May 2025 is a date to mark in red on the calendar of Triathlon fans, as the 36th edition of the Lake Kaltern Triathlon will be celebrated. The idea for the competition was born 37 years ago. Hubert Andergassen, then president of the ‘Kalterer Sportverein’, travelled to Jesolo with Paul Sparer and a group of young Caldaro athletics enthusiasts for training, and by chance they witnessed a triathlon race, and from there it all began. No sooner said than done, and here is one of Italy's historic races appreciated by many athletes and especially by foreigners. Also for 2025 the race format of the Lake Kaltern Triathlon is the Olympic one, with 1.5 km to swim, 40 km to cycle through the vineyards and 10 km to run. An incredible mix of excitement and great sport to be followed on the shores of Lake Kaltern. The organisers of South Tyrol's most famous multi-sport event are the Kaltern Tourism Association and the Triathlon Section of the Kaltern Sports Association, which has Daniel Brunato as its new president from this year: ‘The aim is to organise things in the best possible way and give everyone a top-class edition of our Triathlon, ’ says Brunato, who takes over from former president Werner Maier, now head of the entire Kalterer Sportverein association.
