**Burning March**
An ancient pagan tradition full of meaning: with fire, the bad season is burned away, while the warmth of the flames heats up Mother Earth. In essence, it is a ritual of fertility and fecundity. The big fire represents the climax of a series of events that begin several days before, when the young people, walking through the streets of the village with instruments to make noise (usually bells), collect firewood from families to prepare the great pile. In this case, the bells are used to awaken Mother Nature, and the wood offered by each family represents a "sacrifice" to ensure the success of the ritual. The warmth of the flames heats up Mother Nature (the Earth) and at the same time burns away the bad season. In Lusérn, every district lights its own "martzo, " and all the people of the village gather to celebrate the end of the harsh winter, singing and telling stories around the bonfire. Today, as in the past, on the hill above the village, known as Kraütz, the lighting of the bonfire is renewed on the last Saturday of February, involving the entire community. And this ancient tradition is repeated every year in the small village of Lusérn, where time seems to have stood still, where the ancient Cimbrian language is spoken, and where the boundary between legends and reality is hard to grasp for those immersed in the frenzy of modern life. Come to discover this beautiful tradition, feel part of a community that shares its truest moments with tourists, and live an experience that is truly unique.
