On 12 October in the verdant Tuscan estate of Ciocco di Barga, in the province of Lucca, this year 'Olympus Day' will be celebrated with the first edition of 'Il Ciocco '91/The MTB Olympus', an event conceived with passion by the organisers of Ciocco Sport Lab. 33 years after that mythical "Ciocco '91" World Championships, a special event is being staged whose aim is to promote the passion for 'vintage' MTB and bring together its many fans, who in Garfagnana will have the opportunity to perform in what is the European cradle of MTB. It is in fact at Ciocco that fat wheels have seen their popularity spread across the old continent since 1991,the year in which the first World Championship in Europe (second in the world) was hosted. The route of "The MTB Olympus" will partly retrace the same route taken in '91,to give all bikers a truly unique experience with the character of a true historical commemoration. In the wake of the unforgettable performances of athletes of the calibre of John Tomac (USA), Thomas Frischknecht (SUI), Ruthie Matthes (USA), Albert Iten (SUI) and the Italian talents of Giovanna Bonazzi, Maria Canins, Bruno Zanchi and again Paola Pezzo, Hubert Pallhuber, Paolo Rosola and the ever-present Martino Fruet, absolute protagonists of fat wheels that have brought their names and that of the Ciocco estate to the top, at 'The MTB Olympus' it will be possible to live a more unique than rare experience in the name of the sport of yesteryear. To participate, it will be necessary to ride mountain bikes built before 2000,with 26" wheels, inner tubes and tyres (which for safety reasons can also be more recent), a v-Brake braking system and a double or triple crankset. The MTB Olympus will be staged in the company of the great champions on Saturday 12 October, with the organising committee Ciocco Sport Lab ASD recommending that they rush to dust off their 'vintage' vehicles, which are just waiting to be polished and prepared in the best possible way in view of the autumn appointment that will give them a second youth.
