Casole d’Elsa’s Christmas festivities will be enriched this year too, exceptionally, by the “Praesepium”, the largest open-air show dedicated to the Nativity. The event, already awarded as the best living nativity scene in Italy, is a large event spread throughout the streets of the ancient Valdelsa village with the involvement of almost three hundred participants. The dates set on the calendar are Thursday 26 December, Sunday 29 December, Wednesday 1 January, Saturday 4 January and Sunday 5 January and Monday 6 January, when, between 3: 00 pm and 7: 00 pm, the CasolEventi association will accompany you on a real journey back in time through the centuries by virtue of scenographic installations of strong emotional impact created with great care in the reconstruction of details and respect for traditions. The “Praesepium” experience began with the first performance way back in 1998 and, consequently, is preparing to celebrate its twenty-fifth year. The event offers a truly immersive experience in the scenes and characters of the birth of Jesus, with the narrow streets and squares of the medieval village of Casole d'Elsa that will change appearance to hide every element of modernity and become an open-air theater where you can walk among the scenes of daily life of that historical period. From the gladiator arena, in fact, it will be possible to move on to the artisan workshops created directly in the cellars where you can admire ancient crafts such as spinning and dyeing wool, until you reach the market square and the Nativity hut. All surrounded by soldiers, shepherds, blacksmiths, brothels and artists played by people of all ages who wear clothes reproduced with absolute fidelity to the fabrics and techniques of the past. On the day of the Epiphany, furthermore, the scenography will be completed by the arrival of the Magi riding real camels.
