The Cloak of Saint Ubaldo
Gubbio celebrates March 8th between medieval memory and constitutional commitment
February 28 – March 8 | Arches of Palazzo dei Consoli and Sala Taverna dei Capitani – Via Baldassini, Gubbio
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the city of Gubbio hosts a new event in the Contemporary Art Grand Tour with the event "The Cloak of Saint Ubaldo, " a project that intertwines contemporary art, historical identity, and civic reflection. From February 28 to March 8,the Arches of Palazzo dei Consoli and the Sala Taverna dei Capitani become places of dialogue between the Middle Ages and the contemporary, transforming memory into action and aesthetics into responsibility. The cloak—a symbol of protection and belonging—becomes a metaphor for the Italian Constitution, recalling in particular Article 3,the foundation of equality and equal social dignity. "March 8th in Gubbio will not only be a celebration, but a creative reaffirmation of the principle that every obstacle to the freedom and equality of citizens must be removed. "
If medieval poetry celebrated women as light and angelic figures, today the challenge is to translate that vision into substantial equality, autonomy, solidarity, and leadership—key words that will shape the March 8th journey. ---
