From 11 to 25 May the Kattinis Foundation hosts the personal exhibition Sassi di carta – masters of the past by David Mancazzo, curated by Federica Fabrizi. The past generates knowledge, it allows us to re-examine who we were to understand who we are. The past is the time in which everything that has been experienced, everything that has existed, everything that has been created and everything that has been thought is inscribed. Without the past we would not be able to interpret the present to create the future. After all, contemporary art is also the result of the studies and works of the great artists of the past who have not only changed the history of art but have contributed to writing and spreading it. Suffice it to say that the Venus de Milo, by Alexander of Antioch, was a source of inspiration for Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix and for the Venus de Milo with drawers by Salvador Dalì. One of the trends in the contemporary world is to draw inspiration from the masterpieces and subjects of the great Masters, re-proposing them in a modern and current way, breaking down the canonical terms of painting and sculpture. Like for example: the Last Supper by Tomoko Nagao, in which she pays homage to Leonardo in a Micropop and Superflat key; The Rebirth of Venus by David Lachapelle; The Venus Clouds by Daniele Fortuna. David Mancazzo, in the series Sassi di carta – the great masters, reflects in a completely personal way on the concept of the double historicity of the work of art. In his watercolours, guided by emotions, he reproduces on paper details or entire masterpieces of the great sculptors of the time. With his refined gesture he manages to give life to everything he represents, instilling in the sculptural subjects a sense of appreciation for their beauty. Balance and delicacy of the vibrant colors combine with the strength and intensity of the gesture. Evocative atmospheres capable of involving the observer in suggestive narratives in which past, present and future intersect. The artist demonstrates the power of watercolor painting, which does not accept second thoughts or errors, in recording intuitions or uncertainties on paper in overlapping layers, transmitting emotions and connections with ourselves and what surrounds us. David Mancazzo, paying homage to the Great Masters, brings their works to life in the present, giving them a future.
