The Dowry Tradition (\"La Dodd\").
In Abruzzo, until the first half of the 20 th century, the dowry was a significant part of traditional marriage, especially in rural villages. The main customs included: - The bride\'s trousseau: this comprised sheets, tablecloths, towels, blankets, and hand-embroidered linens. Young women would begin preparing it while still in their teens. - Displaying the dowry: before the wedding, the trousseau was shown to relatives and neighbors as a showcase of the bride\'s skills. - Transporting the dowry: in many areas of Abruzzo, the trousseau was carried in a procession to the newlyweds\'new home.
